Hi,
I was wondering if anyane else had the issue.
The rear defog just stopped working a few weeks ago.
The light on the button comes on, relay clicks, fuse is good. installed new
relay all with no luck.

Getting 14v across the connections on the rear window and they are good and
clean.
Is there something I may have missed or is it time to go to the dealer.
Would rather just resolve on my own as I don't have much time to take it for
service.

thanks

Can you very carefully check for potential just downstream of the power
connector and then just "upstream of the ground"?  It's hard to imagine that
every grid is open circuited, but the connection (either one) to the header
certainly could be.

Actually,
I did some research and found there is a control module behind the passenger
side window. I don't know if this fails and the plug melts or the arcing
causes it to melt and connection is bad. I'd think the fuse would have blown
first????
Anyway,
I checked this out and sure enough the plug is melted. I am going to call
the dealer, I think it sould be a warranty issue but not really sure.

thanks

Good work on your part.  Unless the arcing/melting produced an unintended
path to ground the fuse would not have known anything was wrong in the
circuit.

Please keep me informed.  My daughter has a 2000 Alero and was complaining
recently about her defroster not acting right.

Well, I took it to the dealer. They had it for 2 days. They told me it is
working fine.
I asked if they checked the module and saw the melted plug and they told me
NO.
I asked how they could miss it and they then informed me they did not know
there was a module there (but they checked it and it was ok). They then
asked if I wanted them to keep it and look again.
I told them that was why I left it for an extra day in the first place.

Not sure what I'll do next, maybe remove the panel and take it in and show
them myself?
