Gentlemen;
I have a 1991 olds 98. Just last week, the transmission started out in
3rd gear and stayed there, you could pull it down into first gear and
it worked just fine, but it was very intermitant. Then the "service
engine light" came on, so i checked the codes....lots of codes, code
16 (generator) code 21 (tps)
code 23 (intake air) code 43 (electronic spark)...code 68 (cruise
control) etc...etc... I checked out all these systems and sensors, and
they are working fine......(generator in range, TPS in range
etc..etc..) but i clear the codes, start it up, runs fine for 60
seconds, then the codes start coming back.
Since all the sensors and generator check out ok, whats going on? Any
info would be appreciated. Thanks again.

A few thoughts come to mind:
Loose connector on the PCM?
Loose or high resistance body ground?
Loose fuse to PCM?

WOW!!!!!!
Nice call silver surfer....This problem has dogged me for a week, just
about ready to replace all the sensors and PCM. Turns out the main
cable supplying power to the PCM from the battery was totally
corroided. Clean it up, reconnected, and everything is back to working
normal. I will replace that cable later today. Appreciate the
input....you saved me a ton of money.
Thanks again.....
