i have a 1990 olds calais that is giving me a problem.the car runs fine
until i drive it for awhile and it gets hot.then if i come to a stop it
stalls.i start the car up and when i put it in gear it stalls. it will
keep doing this until it cools down.i have had the car checked by two
different mechanics and neither one can figure it out.if anyone has an
answer i would greatly appreciate it.thanks

Sure hate to sound like a broken record, but your problem reminds me of the
torque converter solenoid that kept sticking on my daughter's '92 Grand Am.
Exact same symptoms as yours. It's fairly easy to disconnect the wiring to
the solenoid to find out if it's the culprit.

Have you taken it to a tranny shop ? Had same problem with 1988
Celebrity. Was TC solenoid. In 1997 it cost about $150 to have
shop replace.

Had the same thing happen to my old Calais which was about 12 years old at
the time. Was indeed the torque converter solenoid. One mechanic had the car
twice and couldn't fix the problem. I guess it only happens on really old
cars and not a lot of mechanics have experience with it. Asked in this
group and the TCS was suggested as problem. Took it to a tranny guy who
charged me abour $200 I think to replace it but I suspect he just removed it
because my gas milage was poorer after that. It did solve the stalling
though.
