The air bag light comes on when I start the car and remains on.  Should I
worry about this?  Is it expensive to fix?

The air bag system is disabled now, needs to be scanned with a SIRS capable
scanner to begin the diagnosis, most of these systems are covered for 5/50.
No harm in driving, just no protection.

not necessarily unprotected.....

sensor might be bad. I know someone who had a Neon with the airbag light on,
he got in an accident, and the bag still deployed.
