Loosen the tensioner, use a suitable lever to release tension, pull
belt, install new one as per diagram and tighten tensioner. Don't know
about your crack about GM, there were over 3000 manufactor's in the
last century and GM is still around, can't say much for the others.

I can tell you have never put a belt on an 96 Olds. The "crack" is there
because if you look at the way it is designed, it is necessary to remove or
at least partially remove the damn motor mount. The lower portion is the
crank sensor. Guess what...........after a few years of rust it doesn't
budge. It is necessary to lift the engine. That's dumb in my book.

Maybe so, but simply lifting the car with a jack, removing the stud and nut
and disconnecting the sensor is all that is really necessary. For detailed
instructions (that will explain in great detail just how easy this really
is) go to autozone.com and click 'repair info.'
Next time, don't buy the supercharged engine. The straight 3800 requires
nothing but the tensioner lift to remove/replace the belt.

I was trying to figure out what that was all about. My memory of
changing the serpentine was not all that complicated. It had to be
something in the way of accessories.
