I recently put an Olds 350 rocket in my 81 Chevy Scottsdale truck. I
have the heater hoses hooked up to the water pump and the front of the intake
manifold. There is a fitting on the back end of the intake manifold that
spits coolant all over when the truck is running. On top it looks like it's
meant for a hose and on the back of the fitting it has a very small spigot
that looks like it might be meant for some kind of vacuum hose. Does anyone
know what should be hooked up to this fitting?
Thanks, Shane

On an Olds V-8 one of the heater hoses goes to the top of the water pump
and the other goes to the back of the intake manifold. There is no heater
hose that goes to the front of the intake. The fitting you talk about is a
heater control valve that is suppposed to have a heater hose and a vacuum
line going to it. It would have come on an air conditioned car. Non a/c
cars had a simple fitting there without the vacuum line and control valve.
I suspect that the place on the front of the intake where you have the
hose incorrectly mounted is the thermostat bypass fitting, which takes a
small u-shaped formed hose.
