Ok I'm at my wits end with my vehicle!! It's a 1994 Oldsmobile
Eighty-Eight Royale.  Awhile back occasionally it would hesitate and
stall out (maybe Once or twice a month - mostly in the day).  Its been
progressivly worse over the last while to where it now stalls daily. I
need this car for my business, so to say the least I'm very frustrated.

- Stalls around midday. Will start fine in the morning and will run
okay until around midday - I'm assuming either because of:
 A) its warmer ouside/ engine is warmer
  and/or
 B) I've used around 1/3-1/2 tank of gas.
- ECM is throwng no codes except something to do with Tranny -  I've
yet to get the report back from the dealer on which one (something to
do with TCC???).
- It stalls in park while idling, in drive, load, no-load -  really
anytime.  It's extremely intermittant.
- Stalling usually happens after engine starts loping erradicaly
(revving, falling, revving, falling, etc). At this point there is no
power from gas whatsoever: In fact if the gas pedal is pushed in it
will cause a stall. Putting into neutral and pressing gas will
sometimes not cause the same problem (it will rev up fine).
- Restarting isn't much of a problem.  I'll pull over, put into Park or
neutral and it will start right back up (sometimes 2 cranks) and will
run for another 10 - 30 min before doing it again.
- Ive changed so far:
 *ECM
 *Crankshaft Sensor
 *Coil Packs/ Module
*Alternator, Starter and Battery (probably dead from so many
restarts)
 *Plugs
 *Wires
 *Air Filter
 *Fuel Filter

- Like I've said, 2 dealers and another mechanic all can't find any
problems.
- Fuel Pressure is good: 32-35psi running
- Spark ok (while running fine - not sure when in "stalling mode")
- Scanned while running and driving around and while idiling - no codes
(except what I mentioned earlier).
- When it starts to hesitate and idle badly, the engine sounds like its
sucking in more air for a min or two (a loud sucking sound coming from
air housing), then (if gas isnt pushed) will slowly come back to a
"better" idle where it will start to lope and rev.
- One more thing: while being scanned, the car luckily started to act
up - the dealer said the car's readings were all out of whack. He said
it may be the ECM - So today I bought a new ECM and installed it (with
original PROM) hoping that would fix the problem - I thought it did,
until it stalled coming home.

I'm really getting really tired of this problem. Any help would be
really appreciated!!

I recently had a similar problem with my 95 Olds 88 Royale - the solution
turned out to be a bad ECM, although my problem was an intermittent stalling
when first driven, within a couple miles of my house.  Once warm, it was
fine - car never did set a code or flash the check engine light when it
would act up.

One thing my mechanic did in troubleshooting the problem was to redo a
number of electrical grounds on the car, specifically the battery ground
connection and a ground wire that connects near the coil pack area, and
possibly the ground connection to the ECM.  In searching through newsgroups
and forums, there were mentions of bad ground connections causing
intermittent problems in GM cars of that vintage and model line. (Olds 88
and 98.)

As for the TCC code - perhaps the lockup torque converter in the
transmission is sticking causing a stall?  I've heard of that problem on
other cars, but usually it doesn't release while you are slowing down
causing a stall as to come to a stop.  I'm no mechanic, just someone with
just enough knowledge to be dangerous.

Hope this helps, and good luck on finding the intermittent problem.
Bob.

You have to check fuel pressure at the rail when the car is acting up, check
on your fuel specs they sound low any way. Remember there is a sock/filter
in the tank also.

Has your car been fixed yet? What was the problem? I am having the same
problem with my 1988 olds cutlass cierra with 3.8 liter. Engine light came
on then car stalled. Car will start and when gets warm , shuts off.
Installed new module, computer, fuel pump and filter, fuel injectors,
hooked up to computer without a code, new plugs & wires, new coils...and
still will not stay running. It gets warm, loses spark and shuts off.
PLease help me too

Well nothing yet has solved the problem.
Ive had it to 2 other mechanics.  Replaced Cam sensor, cleaned MAF, EGR
and cleaned connectors to most sensors. Fuel pressure and fuel quality
(water, dirt, etc) was checked - seems to be okay.

New mechanic says its TCC solinoid sticking that's causing the problem.
I don't see it thou, considering it will stall in Park as well as in
drive.  It dosent even have to be driven for the condition to heppen.

Has anyone had an issue with the TCC solinoid sticking causing a stall,
rough idle (surging/reving) condition??

it sounds like your having trouble with your map (manifold absolute pressure)
sensor. try changing it and it should solve the problem.
