306 1.9TD - Clicking sound is heard when I attempt to start engine.
Is this the starter motor ?? Any suggestions to bring it back to life, or is
it normally a case of replacement.
Many thanks

Sure the battery's not flat? That tends to happen when there's not enough
power in the battery as though it's attempting to turn over, but hasn't got
the energy to. Get a jump start kit, or jump leads from another car and try
it. If it still doesn't start, I'd expect something a little bit more major
wrong. But that's the first thing I'd try anyway.

If the battery's not flat try looking for loose connections on either
the battery terminals or the starter motor.

Get a heavy ended screwdriver and give the starter motor a rattle with it
before you attempt to start the motor. If this works then it would suggest
a sticking solenoid - sadly it is integral to the starter motor and unless
you are happy to repeat this `rap` every time it sticks then you will be
forced into replacing it. It appears to be a common problem in 306's -
especially the DT and TD's.
