I would have thought it would have a gasket, but I have had excellent
results using the silicone instant gasket stuff. Just make sure that both
surfaces are oil free. Normal jointing compound by itself would be a waste
of time.

Thanks. It's a possibility that it could even be the oil pressure
sensor as there appears to be dampness around it or the crankshaft oil
seal at the fan belt end. The problem is that th eleak only appears
when driven and the air flow distributes the oil over the underside of
the engine and car so even though I clean it off with white spirit it's
difficult to locate.
