The above car is fitted with a philips Radio.
The radio was found to be dead after purchasing the car.I have replaced the
Fuse on the back of the radio. Now there is some life in the Radio the front
opens and it now takes a tape and ejects it but there is no other life like
noise from the speakers.

Cant see where the diplay is for the radio.
There is a hole in the dash above the hazard lights button. But it does not
look like a display just a holder for small items.

Will the diplay light up before the security code is entered or are you
ment to press the security button and then enter security code and radio
will come to life.
Any help much appreciated

The fact that it's accepting tapes shows it's powering up but you may
not have the radio illumination wire connected,it's a red one. When
power is applied the word "code comes up on the display,it does not
remain blank. You have a display wire problem.

Dont know where the display is starting to suspect this radio has been put
in from another 406 as there doesn't seem to be any display(physicaly)in
the car.Unless Im missing something here.

I have a 1999 406 LX with the Philips radio.   The display is part of the
radio's facia.   It is a small panel set between the radio's controls
immediately above the 3 and 4 preselect buttons.   This is the model 4035.

The handbook shows a second model which has the display mounted separately
above the air conditioning/climate controls on the right side of the
console, a position in which my car, which has manual air conditioning,
holds the outside temperature display.   This radio is the model 4050, also
made by Philips.

I suspect that the radio model is decided by whether the car has manual or
automatic air conditioning.

Hope this helps.

Hi

It does sound like the high spec GLX, SRI, Exec radio has been fitted
instead of the L, LX radio.

I have the radio that you are talking about in my 1998 406 LX. When I first
got the car, the LED's in the radio display had all gone. Cost about 20
pounds to get them replaced by a radio shop.
