Where the middle bit of the exhaust meets the back box the exhaust
pipe has split all the way round and come apart. i have it booked in
to be fixed, but peugeot have told me it isn’t covered under warranty,
is this right i have had it from new and its 30 months old? can i
complain and kick up a fuss or are they within their right. it seams a
bit unfair when all the rest of the underside of my car is in mint
condition and the car has been treated well. surely this is poor
workmanship?

Not bad, three english winters and two summers. Trouble is the rear end
doesn't get that hot so creates condensation which causes metal worm to
thrive-especially if the car is used for mainly short runs. Plus being
battered with road muck and salty grit. Having said that a relative just
part ex'd a fourteen year old Proton still with it's original exhaust.

if its just cracked but not corroded i suppose you could have it welded

You'd need to look carefully at the terms of your warranty. I suspect
exhausts come under 'wear and tear'. I wouldn't bank on any good will from
Peugeot. Not their speciality. They don't care (yet) whether or not you buy
another Peugeot.

peugeot  exhausts are covered for 24 months unless it is the catalyst
which is three years.
exhausts will corrode from the inside because the main amount of waste
from engine is water. the water sits inside the exhaust when
stationary and corrodes exhaust. the outside of the exhaust can look
perfectly fine until you get the sudden breakage. not poor workmanship
but better exhaust emissions.
