1991 405GL Engine problem

This little problem doesn't happen all the time so I don't know whether to
be worried or not.

Sometimes after a run of about 5 miles, the engine is switched off and key
removed. The engine still carries on running.

Any help appreciated

pre ignition, basically a "hot spot" in the cylinder that automatically
ignites the fuel without the need for the spark.
check fuel mixture and ignition timing.
