Air Con

Hi

OK, this is annoying me now.  I had my air-con regassed not 12 months ago,
and it has never been right.  It blows warm.  I called up the guy again and
he came round.  Attached his meter and there is no shortage of gas!   No
leaks either.

He has emptied it and regassed it again, but still blows warm?!

Anybody got any ideas?  Fuse?  Belt?  Etc.

Its a yr2000 406 HDI estate.

TIA
Oli

So your air con expert does not seem to be much of an expert then?

You will need to check the rest of the system. Does the clutch cut in an
out, if so is it quickly(bad) or stay on and off for periods of
minutes(good)
Have a look for a pressure switch, possibly near or on the drier. Mine (405)
gets corroded contacts and a few pull off push on cycles of the connector.
Locate the all controlling Bitron module. Again try the connector trick with
this.
Check the temperature sensor in the fresh air intake. If this has failed or
is telling the control system that the air temp is below about +4 C then the
aircon is programmed to shut down.

One more thing to do - Get yourself another aircon man. I just can't credit
any specialist like this leaving you without a working system and as a
minimum referring you to someone who does know what they are doing.

Good luck

Thanks Bob.  When I press the button on the console in the car, I hear a
click in the engine bay - I assume that this is the clutch kicking in.
Where can I find the pressure switch?  Also, I have located the temperature
sensor, but how can I test to see if it is faulty?

OK so the clutch sounds like it is working. I dont know where the pressure
switch is on your car. On my 405 it is on top of the drier by the side if
the radiator but there are no rules as to where pug will have put it. Trace
the pipes and you should come across it. Look for pipes in and out with say
about 4 wires going to it.
Connect a volt meter to the temp sensor. Blow on it with a warm hair dryer,
then put an ice cube on it. the voltage should change but I don't know in
which way. if it does not change then I thing this woud be incorrect.

I'm no expert but these are just ideas.

Surely if the OP hears a click and the clutch activates it's already
checked for gas pressure and temperature, else it wouldn't even click
in? Just trying to work out what order the system goes in.

As everybody else says, find a decent air con man...

Find an automotive aircon man who knows what he's doing.

Hi, someone gave me some help on a similar problem, but to start with
check that the electric clutch is engaged when the engine is running
ie the centre part of the compressor pulley is rotating with the outer
part.
If its not check that the pressostat (which is a switch in the gas
line close to the front radiator with 4 leads on it) has battery volts
on both pin1 and pin2 of connector. I think this makes contact at
normal gas pressure but opens up if pressure gets too high.  But then
again it might be somewhere else.........

Hi

OK I think I found the problem.  The air con pipes are really cold when the
system is running right until they go through the bulkhead.  Obviously I
cannot see what is happening through the bulkhead.

In a fit of rage I punched the dash board, near the "sun sensor" thing in
the middle.  Low and behold, the air conditioning came on and freezing cold
air came out the vents.

My question is - in hitting the dashboard what did I move behind there to
activate the system?  Furthermore, how do I get to it properly so I can fix
permanently?

TIA
Oli!

Sounds like the mixer flap was stuck. Get ready for the dreaded clicking
drive motor noise as regularly discussed in this group. Visit the google
group archive for the full details.

are both of your fans working? likely not....
the relay switches are right behind the grille upperside between the
fans, triangularish box, check the bottom one, it likely to have its
mass wire rotten of.... as the whole damn thing isn't in the right
place first, and it is bad engineered.
cheers

Marc
