I have a 406 LX diesel estate and for about a year it has been a problem
starting,it may be ok for weeks then go through a stage where it is very
hard to start, the diagnostic warning light is on most of the time,if it
does go out I get more power.
Has anyone any idea of what it could be??????

Have you had the fault codes read? If the engine diagnostic light is on
there must be a reason. It's probably a loose connection judging by what
you're saying, but it could be in a number of places. Isn't a year a bit
long to be putting up with the problem?

Hi Malc
We have been using it as a taxi and the driver said it had been ok
starting for a few months, now its gone really bad, apart from first thing
in the morning, when it starts firt pull and the diagnostic light goes out
and he gets full power,I had a Rover with a similar problem, and as you say
that was a loose conection,
I fear this seems worse than that.

Your best bet is to get the codes read somewhere. Either a dealer if you can
afford it or a local specialist and then you can either accept their advice
or come back here and someone with more knowledge than me can tell you what
they mean.

You need to pay your local Peugeot dealer to read the fault code - that's
what the warning light is there for, to tell you there's a fault :)
Without knowing what the fault is, you aren't gonna be able to get it fixed.
