Yes, you can use any remote, new or secondhand. The metal key part just
pulls out when the case screw is removed. If it's a post 98 model
(Phase II facelifted 306) then also move over the little grey bit of
plastic that sits near the metal part of the key - that's your
transponder chip which works with the immobiliser so you can start the
car.

Depends what you originally meant by faulty. If they won't open the
car only, then the above will work. If they won't start the car then
you WILL need to get them configured at your dealer. You will need the
transponder code and your dealer will get it for around £15

Many thanks. My Citroen key will neither unlock the car doors nor start the
car (as the immobiliser is still on).
