I have just taken ownership of a Peugeot 406 (2001 model).

There was no owners manual with the car, and there is an orange warning
light which is always illuminated.

The light is a passenger wearing a seatbelt, with a bubble to the right
of them.

What does this light signify?

Should be the airbag error light. Look for a loose connector, usually behind
the seat.

This is the passenger airbag deactivated warning light.

Look for a red circle with a slot in it somewhere on the dash or console, it
will be labelled Airbag Pass.

Put your ignition key into the slot and it will spring to the activated
position and light should go out.

Cheers.

I can see the red-circle, and when I set it to "activated" then I get
an orange light on the dash which says the words "AIR BAG". It goes off
when I set it to "de-activated".

Wiggled all the wires under the seat, and it doesn't seem to change the
state of the light.

Has anyone got the definition from the manual from this car?

Maybe you have just found why the previous owner decided to sell the car...

You NEED an owners manual with any modern car as complex as the 406.

Get yourself to you local dealer - they'll be able to order you one for a
few pounds.
