A friend has lent me a 406 saloon petrol on an S plate, done
167,000 miles. I am so impressed with this car that I am
thinking about a 406 diesel  estate on a 02 or 03 plate. I
wonder could any of you Peugeot owners give any thoughts on
this. Thank you for any replies.

I've had an 01 rapier 2.0 hdi (90) estate for about 5 months, 130k on the
clock, runs great, starts great,averages 45 - 50 mpg

I have 99 80kw SV (most luxurious)break which has run 230.000 kms. I am
still very enthousiastic about this car. In France, Sweden and Norway this
type of car is often used as an taxi, because of its economy and space and
driveabiltiy.

I would suggest the 110 HDI, I have the 90 HDI on 02 plate which is a bit
underpowered.
Other than that, no major problems and I like the car.

have your ECU remapped,  makes it a 110 with a smaller turbo,  even
pug dealers can do it for you these day's,   or you can go @ places
like http://www.angeltuning.co.uk/

do not fall for tuning boxes!!!!

What's the problem with tuning boxes then?

Nothing, they're excellent.

I can recommend http://www.allardturbosport.co.uk/ and
http://www.vanaaken.com/europe/index.asp as suppliers. Both those two have
been around for yonks, and know their stuff !

I myself have a 406 diesel (albeit a saloon) with over 170,000 miles on it,
and can'r believe how good it drives and feels. I bought it 4 years ago, and
am still impressed by it. So much so that if something went drastically
wrong and I had to change my car, I'd be on the lookout for another,
Cheers

Running a June 2001  406 Rapier Estate Hdi 90 hp with 57,000 miles.
Serviced after warranty by CPP Coventry( local Citroen/Peugeot
specialist).
Local Peugeot Main Dealer toooooo expensive. Often the case, so find
local equivalent of CPP this is VITAL. Replaced turn indicator switch at
approx 40,000 and exhaust rear section and radio aerial since.
Mostly local motoring in West Midlands on Tesco fuel with Millers
Diesel Power Plus additive, to protect fuel pump. Local mpg 42 and
Coventry/
Aberdeen return-- 48 mpg cruising where possible at 70/80mph with full
load.
Only regret, did not go for 110 hp engine- quieter and more economical
on
M/way, if not thrashed.
As noted elsewhere, commonly used as TAXIS,  be sure you don`t buy one
of these
unwittingly.
Happy 406`ing.
Wally.
