The temperature display next to the clock had started showing high readings,
its at 50c now and rises 10 - 15c every time I get in and drive. Does this
mean its knackered or can I reset it somehow?

It's knacked. Either the sensor in the passenger wingmirror has died, or the
wire inside the door hinge has snapped.
