AUTO FOLDING REAR VIEW MIRRORS FOR PEUGEOT 307

Hello,
I have a 2003 3 door 2.0lt 307 Xsi in Australia.  I am interested in
buying a couple of door mirrors from the UK over ebay to fit on my car.
They fold automatically when the you press the remote to look the
doors.  I like this.
Can anyone tell me if I would have problems fitting these?  Do you know
if the wiring loom is already there in the doors and will cater for
"folding action"?  Can I just plug and play, so to speak?  My current
mirrors are already electric if that makes any difference.
I am hoping that all I would need to do is take off my existing
mirrors, pull out the guts of them, insert the newly purchased guts.  I
would like to keep the black duco I currently have on my mirrors and
not the newly purchased gold duco mirrors.  I don't really want to
respray them black.  Can this be done?

No. As well as the mirrors, the switch panel is different and I doubt
the wiring would be the same. And as well, you would need to go to
your dealer to have the mirrors configured in the BSI.

I wonder if it would be possible to wire them up on a sparate switch, so
that you could swing them in manually. Could be easier, and quite useful
when you come to some of those width barriers.

I have seen the new 407 and it doesn't have a switch (from what I coudl
see) to manually retract the mirrors.  I believe it all happens when
you lock the doors.  Although, I bet I am wrong.  :)
Hey Nigel, what is the BSI?  Is that ths car's firmware?
Dan.

On my 307, if you pull/slide back the switch on the arm reat which you use
to select left / right mirror for position adjustment, then the mirrors
retract !

It's what allows the two networks (CAN and VAN) on the car to talk to
each other. The CAN network is made by Bosch and controls the
mechanical systems like the brakes, engine and gearbox. The VAN is
Peugeot developed (I think, with Renault) and controls the safety
(airbags, lighting), body (wipers, doors) and comfort (aircon, radio).
The CAN has priority over VAN and is quicker. Which is why there is a
slight delay when you switch the lights on or sound the horn. The
newer cars have a CAN CAN system which is a lot more reliable and
quicker. The BSI can be downloaded and updated over the internet as
can the engine ECU.

Hi Gang,
That's all very interesting about the CAN VAN and CAN CAN systems
Nigel.  I had no idea about all of this.  I know what you mean about
the slight delay when pressing the horn, etc.  I see that with my 307.
As for what "Only Me" wrote on Fri 17 Mar, yes, you are absolutely
right about the switch on your armrest.  I have had a better look at
the ebay ad I was talking about
http://cgi.ebay.com/peugeot-307-SXI-2002-2LTR-D-S-DOOR-SWITCHES_W0QQitemZ4615333

and this clearly shows that the mirror L+R select switch also had a
downward feature that obviously folds the mirrors when pressed.  My
Australian model definitely does not have this which leads me to
believe that I will not be able to get the retractable mirors working
properly anyhow.
If anyone has any other info otherwise, I would love to hear from
you...Nigel??  :)

Thanks for all the info guys,
Much appreciated.
Dan.

Never thought about it before, although the mirrors have to be
configured to work electrically and to fold, I would have thought it
would be possible to wire the fold back to a seperate switch. Maybe
they would work if you just fitted the switch with the fold back
facility. I suppose it would depend if the wiring to the switch was
there. Of course you would have to go to a Pug dealer to configure
them. Then you would find out whether it worked or not. Waste of money
if they didn't work!!!
