used car warranty

I haven't bought a used car from a dealer for some years so I am somewhat
inexperienced in what I should expect. Having now just bought a 2002 model
at 6K (UK pounds) and been given a verbal promise of 12 months warranty,
parts and labour, I am a little surprised and put out to find that there is
absolutely no mention of the warranty terms at all in any of the
documentation that I have recieved. This is from a large Peugeot dealership

Even if I buy a £6 watch I would expect to find the warranty terms spelt
out, so am I being unreasonable to expect it with a £6,000 car, or am I
being fussy?

Can anyone please tell me what is normal practice assuming that they have
recently done a similar transaction.

Last year when I bought my car I got my warranty documents through the post
about 2 weeks after I took delivery ofthe car. If you are worried about the
warranty then why not just ring the stealership and ask the sales person who
sold you the car whichcompany the warranty is though and when you will
receive the documents??

This might be as good a place to ask as any. I've been looking thought the
s/h ads for a car and I notice a lot of dealers flogging px vehicles "to
clear" with no warranty. Now I understood that a dealer had to warranty a
car for at least a couple of months on things apart from normal wear and
tear. I can understand not getting much of a warranty but none at all?

I got my warranty at the same time I bought the car. Assuming it's the
standard peugeot warranty it's actually a mechanical breakdown parts
and labour insurance type of thing and has some fairly important
limitations - in my case the head gasket started to go at 11 months but
the dealer wouldn't do the work unless I authorised that at risk, i.e.
if it turned out to be something else I'd have had to pay for the head
gasket work. However, compared to the bad old days when any problems
were the customers as soon as you drove it away, it's better than a
kick in the pants.
