Help: speedometer and trip dont work 306TD 96

Some times it works some times it dont. It hapens even if i m driving the
car. It just stops responding

Is it an electrically operated unit or has it a conventional speedo cable?
If the first, then you have a bad connection somewhere, probably at the
pickup end on top of the differential housing at the back of the gearbox.
If it iss the turning cable type, then the cable inner is most likely
broken.
