remote locking original key, need duplicate, peugeot want a days
salary, anyone know of a place in the uk can copy one?
Dave G - 20 Jan 2007 06:48 GMT
Hi Greg,

I know a locksmith in Bolton Lancs that can do it but he will need to program
the ECU to match the transponder code for the new key. My understanding is
that the transponder in the original key can not be copied. I found this guy
in the yellow pages, might be worth a try.

I don't think 405s use a transponder. My 95 model does not.

The problem will be the IR section of the remote and getting programmed to
match the car.
I think it is a straight choice between day's salary or use the mechanical
key in the drivers door just like we always used to!

Sorry didn't realise it was a 405. I think I would use the mechanical method !

You could get the key cut at a locksmiths and the use this site if it is
just the IR that needs programming

Hi,

Eeer, if it uses the old-type separate remote (from Neiman), it's based on
the Philips TEA5500. The code is hard-coded thru voltage levels on E1-E10
inputs, a look at the PCB is fast & effective : both + and GND comes at the
same time, the net is drilled to select voltage by cutting one (or both for
Hi-Z) of them. In this case, just solder / cut similar tracks, check for R &
C values (oscillator freq) and that should be all.

Thanks for the tips guys,

It isn't a seperate remote, the remote is built into the key and is the
same as in most 106's and 306's.  I don't know if it's possible somehow
to 'recode' a 2nd hand key?  It's the infa red type.  I can't simply
lock the door as the remote arms the alarm, locking the door doesn't.
Plus I like things to work.  A spare key that won't diarm the car isn't
any good sadly ;-)

The infra red key plip is easily programmed.   Instructions are on this

Oh no it isn't.

At least I can't find any reference to 405 or IR programming.
Please prove me wrong

OP said "same as in most 106's and 306's" so this should be the correct
instruction.   Works fine for my wife's 306 with IR keys.

My keys I think are the later transponder type, they have one 'plastic'
button in the IR fob, not the ones with 2 buttons with the rubber
covers.

So I think the 106 method (N reg 106 had same key) may work:

"106 PLIP PROGRAMMING

1. Unlock the vehicle using the working key.

2. Press the LOCK button 2 times within 20 seconds."

My next question, now it seems keys can be programmed easily, is....

Where do I buy a blank transponder key so my local cutter can cut it
and I can program it?????

Okay I have switched my brain on.  First I found this, new blank key
and transponder remote body for £30:

Then I saw lots of 2nd hand keys for sale, as they don't fit the cars I
figured you must be able to get blank key blades to fit into the
housing - you can for a fiver:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-X-PEUGEOT-RENAULT-REMOTE-KEY-BLADE-106-206-306-CLIO_W0QQ
itemZ230082957115QQihZ013QQcategoryZ10406QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

So now I just find an old 405 key, may even have one, fit the new
blade, and hope the 106 procedure programs it and I don't have any
transponder trouble......

If anyone has programed a single button 1996 peugeot key before please
feel free to comment!

I think you'll find that you can NOT programme 405 plips. You have to
buy a key from a dealer and provide the dealer with the number that is
printed on a small piece of paper in the original key or in the
receiver unit in the roof console. 306 and 106 keys work on a
different system.
Greg - 08 Feb 2007 10:07 GMT
Which makes me wonder why they sell so well on ebay for good money, if
you can't program them?????
