I currently own a Peugeot 307cc, which is on the whole a great car to
drive but the only major fault i’ve found is an annoying tapping sound
that is situated over the driver’s front wheel arch. A service manager
at a Peugeot dealership advised me that the car was supposed to make
this noise whilst idling, which i find hard to believe. If anyone else
has come across this problem then i would like to know. :(

What a lot of b....... he is pulling the wool over your eyes. i have
driven many of these car and never heard a noise by the wheel arch,it
might be your horn if it is fitted under the arch under the double
skin.come loose.

The simple answer is to get him to show you this on several other cars
(any decent sized dealership should have several 307s on the lot). If
others with the same engine don't make the noise, then he is clearly and
demonstrably fobbing you off. You could also ask him exactly what part
it is that is causing the noise, then post his response here.

If it's a HDi then it could be the crank pulley. I had this problem with my
406 and the tapping noise sounded like it was coming from the driver's wheel
arch; the crank pulley is behind this. For further information search Google
Groups for hdi crank pulley.

Hi there,

Your description fits exactly to what happens with my 406 2.0 glx N
reg. In my case the taping starts as soon as the temperature reaches
70 degrees celcius and only when idling. Peugeot dealer mechanic said
he cannot hear nothing and I could not believe it :?: .

If any one finds out what it is please let as know.

Many thanks
Angelos
