Speedometer problem

I have a 205 1.4 Forever from 1994. Runs like a dream!

But the speedometer has stopped working at all. I tried to remove the
speedometer cable today, and it seems to me like it's working fine (when
I rotate one end, the other end rotates accordingly).

But when I attach the cable to the transmission again, nothing happens -
the other end (cabin end! ) doesn't move at all...

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Hans Henrik

There is a nylon helical gear inside the transmission housing, on the end of
the speedo drive which is probably worn. You can get at it I think by
removing the speedo drive unit from the transmission.

I changed the nylon gear - and it did indeed solve the problem.

Thanks for helping!
