I have a 1998 diesel Peugeot 406.
My problem is that when i turn on the car the fan comes on and stays
on sometimes even when the ignition is turned off.
Fans sometimes comes on when the key is in ignition even when the car
is not started. Occasionly the fans come on when the key is not in the
ignition.
Can anyone please help?

Sounds like your thermostat sensor is playing up try fitting a new one.

See a previous post on this site. Sounds like the thermostat that feeds the
bitrol control for the two fans is suspect.

Do you have air con because whenever this is enabled even in the screen
demist position the fans will come on at slow speed.
The fans will remain on at slow speed and sometimes fast if the engine is
very hot after a long run.
1) Are the fans running when you switch on from cold.
2) What is your usual engine running temperature shown on the gauge this
uses a different thermostat to sensor.
3) Do you have climate control or straight air con (mine has climate
control )

Fan in safe mode. Check both fans, one is probably not working.
