Help! Car is a 1996 406 saloon. since yesterday I have no power to the
lighter socket by the handbrake. I've checked it with three separate items,
none working at all.
Have checked the handbook for fuses, but there are no references to fuses
for this socket.
So, where do I check next, all advice welcome.
Cheers,
Ainslie

Don't have the details for that vehicle, but you can be sure that there is a
fuse somewhere for the lighter plug.

The Haynes manual has a "Typical Cigar Lighter" wiring diagram which seems
to indicate that it is fuse 1 or 1A in the passenger compartment fuse box.
They also say elsewhere that there are two fuse boxes (1 in the engine
compartment and the main one in the passenger compartment) and the details
of what circuits each fuse protects are on the covers.

If you find the fuse box it should say on the lid which fuse dos what.

Cheers for the replies so far. I'll check the fuse box covers in the morning
once there's some light. Seems odd though, if there's a fuse you'd expect
the handbook to list it, but it's not listed in either of the fuse box
listings.
Will update in the morning, if anyone has a specific answer let us know
please.

Right, I've been out and checked the fusebox covers. No description of which
fuse relates to anything. Short of plugging something in and then swapping
fuses, has anyone got any suggestions as to how to proceed?

See my previous reply and try fuses 1 and 1a in the passenger compartment
box.

Ahem. Yes, fuse 1 did the trick. It is also listed in the manual. Back to
school for me :(
