Probably, I believe they are standard on the HDi engines. If it goes, you
start to get a rattle from the off side front. I thought my exhaust was
working loose at first. My repairer said that when he revved the engine
and shone a torch down, he could see tiny slivers of metal flying off.

Your 2003 HDI will have the earlier type, as fitted to the old XUDs. The
type which falls apart was only fitted to the earlier HDIs AFAIK. My wife's
2000 306 HDI 90 has this type, and it has already failed at 85k. My 2002 307
HDI 110 has the older type, and that is fine at 100k.
They do make a lot of noise when they go. Ours had a thin steel band hanging
out of it.
