Daughters 1.4 306 power steering is whining a bit on full lock (both ends).
I also noted that if you turn the steering wheel quickly whist stationary,
the engine revs increase briefly then settle down again. Is this normal or
is it possibly the pump on its way out and putting extra load on the engine?
Also, after running for a few miles a rattle is heared coming from the cat
area. If the rattle stops it is possible to start it off again by knocking
the pipe near the cat. It is an internal rattle so is it possible for the
cat internals to become loose or detached?

First thing thats normal, 2nd thing the inside of the cat has come
loose. so its time for a new cat (sorry but they are not cheap)

Thanks for that. The cat is still under warranty - this is the 3rd one that
has been fitted in 18 months. The 1st one split after 6 months, the second
one failed on emissions 6 months later and this one is rattling. I will
contact the gararge tomorrow. Thanks.

Not sure. Noticed that when the rattle was apparent I could stop it by
pushing the middle box either up or away from me so I guess it's not the
cat. I need to crawl underneath and have a proper look.
