Thes pulleys seem to rarely give trouble so I am surprised that you have not been able to find one from a scrapped engine. If i get one from a scrapped engine dont know if it is the same as mine knackered. It's a common fault on early HDI 406 engines (don't know about the petrol version). Mine went and was a job that my repairer was familiar with as he has a number of customers with 406s. As you say, something I have never heard of on the 405 although I recognised the symptoms as soon as Chris described them. Of course, with over a quarter of a million miles on the clock, Chris's has lasted a long time and it is probable that most 405s are consigned to the big car park in the sky long before the pulley would go. I have already replaced the one on my wife's 306 HDI. Depends which way you are driving, but going from W. Byfleet, through Old Woking it is on the right. |
