hello I am peugeot fan;- I am now begining to hate them as a result of
the dealers they are killing this brand and the company does not seem
to care.

I had a 1983 205GL great car never gave trouble and now I brought a
406LX (2001). few months back the dreaded engin management light came
on with the reading "Anti Polluition Fault" took in to dealer could
not diagnose but charges me in total £50 for pluging in the machine!!.
said it could be something to do with the "secondary air intake
system" Then I discoved that the exhaust has a bolw out changed the
whole system including the both the O2 sensors. Now the light comes on
and off the car runs fine???!!!??? very frustrating wonder if any one
else has had this problem I have so changed the spark plugs oil as
well. thanks

Welcome to the club. I own a VW Golf 2001 with a similar problem. A 80
euro cleaning job had no effect.
The dealer says there's nothing wrong with the actual emissions. He is
earnest to tell me that he can try to replace parts but that he cannot
guarantee that this will solve the problem.
My solution: a piece of black tape over the light.
Fortunately there are still indicators for oil pressure and coolant
temperature and the car runs OK in every other aspect.

A friend of mine had the same kind of problem with his Volvo.
My sister evenually bougth a Skoda after her Peugeot 206 frequently
simply did not start and the dealer was not able to find the cause.
I also heard about these kinds of problems with a Fiat Stilo.
I think it's all about software. Microsoft is not the only one that
makes a mess of it.
Garage people do not understand what they are doing when dealing with
the motor management system. They simply follow outlined routes that are
sometimes quite irelevant.
It's time the manufacturers find a way so that the involved risks are
better spread over customers.
(I had also a 1300 euro misfortune of damaged valves due to a timebelt
problem, in spite of all prescribed maintenance.)
I noticed that e.g. Honda and Toyota owners were more statisfied, but I
am afraid that these kinds of problems are very common nowadays.
For the time being, my next car will probably a Honda or a Toyota.

Have fun, Bert

I've had that happen with a Fiat Seicento, also similar on Renault
Megane Scenic. In both cases it was a similar sensor. RPM sensor on
the Fiat, TDC sensor on the Renault. Both do a similar job - they
won't start as the computer can't sense what speed the engine is
turning over at in order to engage the choke/fuel.

Thank you for both the replies, I think this is a joke the whole point
of having diagnostic device is to find the problem quick it obviously
seems to be doing the opposite!!!??!!

I think as per peugeot I thinkthe owners of models with these problems
should get to gether a send a petition to them, might wake them up.
wonder why they cannot make cars, which when a light comes up means
their is something seriously wrong!!

Hi

I had  a citroen picasso some time ago with a similar problem.  Garage never
solved it and it went away of it's own accord.  There is a web site which
discusses this problem in greater depth
http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/picasso/index.php?showtopic=14336.

Whilst it is not the same car it may have commonality of parts / design and
there is a link halfway down the page to a technical discussion document
from Citroen about lambda sensors.

Hope it hels.

Thank you for all the good advice.

I think the problem was (hopefully) with the lambda sensors I replaced
both when changing the exhaust system as no voltage was coming to them
and cleared the faults. Lo behold the light came on again, so i hooked
it up for the million time into a digagnostic machine!!! if I had gone
to a peugeot dealer I would not have money to eat but my local garage
is very nice did it for free?? the fault code each time before this
was was to do with the secondary air system this time it said it was
the new and replaced lambda sensors, while they were swiching between
lean and rich with out a fault.....the technician said he does not
why, so ereased the fault codes and I am running car light has not
come on so hopefully it would have sorted it self, funny I have spent
over £150 now ONLY for diagnoseing this problem. Shame Peugeot
SHAME!!!!

Had the same problem with my 307 2.0lt petrol.  Turned out to be a
faulty coil pack.  Had that replaced, problem solved.
Dan.

Well the light came on again.............very very frustrating..with
rgs to the coil pack how can I check this Dan.  The fault is
registered between 2/10 seconds after I start the engine from cold in
the Mornings. some times it goes away when I start again or continue
to stay on for a week or so then go off come back in the day or two.
good if you can give me more info.

thanks.

Sorry Laks, I wasn't the one who found my problem, the PUG mechanic
did.  This is what they told me it was.  They said it could also be
caused by bad fuel.
I know....frustrating, and I'm probably not making it better either!
