Headlamp indicator flashing

On my P406 the indicator light on the dashboard that tells you that the
headlamps are on occasionally flashes on and off for no apparent reason
(usually, but not always, when the headlamps are on).

Is this trying to tell me something or is it a fault.  I suspect it's a
fault because if I briefly indicate right or left or switch to main beam and
back to dip again then the flashing stops.  The flashing is a 50:50 duty
cycle about once per second (and a slighly different frequency to the
indicators).

Anyone got any ideas on an easy (and _cheap_) fix?

TIA,

- Pete

On my 406 it does the same on occasions, you turn the headlights on and no
indicator light comes on,
I have found that a tap on the top of the instrument cluster makes the light
come on and its lights up as normal.
It will normally then be ok again for a few weeks. I put it down to a
crappy connection at the bulb itself.
