Clogged heater matrix

My son tells me his heater has stopped working in his F-Reg 205 GL. The
blower is fine.

I guess he probably has a clogged up heater matrix & that we are going
to have to replace it.

Is it possible to check it by somehow passing water (if you will excuse
the term) through it, without the hassle taking the matrix out of the
car?

undo the return flow pipe from the matrix at the bulkhead inside engine bay.
