'99 406 2L. Curious question.
How is it that, if I try to start the car as soon as I put the key in, it
takes a couple of seconds to fire, sometimes.
If I leave ign on for a couple of seconds first, it starts instantly ?

Gives time for the fuel pump to get fuel to the engine?

I presume that ign wouldn't switch on at all if immob not working yet ?
maybe fuel pump, but again, presume there is some fuel in carb or whatever.
Just curious really

The car doesn't have a carb - it's fuel injected, so no float bowl full of
fuel. If this only occurs when the car has been sat for some time, then I
would definitely imagine it's the fuel pump.

Does the imobilisor need to get itself ready? Does it take time to build up
the voltage required for the coils?

my wifes punto ( i hate them too) takes 2 seconds from inserting the key
before you can start it. Firstly to recognise the key code and seco0ndly you
hear a motor run and a relay click off which i assume is the fuel injection
pre-arming/filling. start it before and no chance. after and you need no
throttle just turn the key.

I find it almost amusing, that my 30 year old Volkswagen starts virtually by
looking at the key, & beats the 4 year old pug every time !
Nevermind, at least it has heating !
