306 revs

Hi, hope someone may have an idea about this...

My 306 XR (1994) has developed a small problem.

The rev counter is reading intermittently, but the speedo works fine.

For example, i will be driving along, or idling and the needle will read say
1000rpm at idle, then it will fall off the scale to 0, then back to 1000rpm.
the engine is running fine, consistently at 1000rpm but the rev meter is
working intermittently if i have made sense!!

Its a bit strange as it was working fine this morning, but has now developed
this fault.  As i said, the speedo, and actual revs are fine, just this
reading is intermittent between nothing, and a sensible reading!!

Any ideas??

Had this with my 306 and it was caused by a failing sensor - about £20 to
replace IIRC.

I don't know exactly which sensor or it's location but a search of Google
groups sgows it is a common problem.
