Because most mechanics and DIY'ers can't get to the root of the problem and
don't have a clue what they are doing :).
A MAF system works as good as a MAP system if you understand how it works :).
Many of the early MAF's suffered from the hotwire separating and that caused
issues. Also, people use cheap air filters which blow into the MAF, insulate it
and cause issues. A MAF can often be made to work like new by simply cleaning
the contacts and hotwire with electronics spray :).
