Hi.
I'm searching for a way to use my 1988 Firebird TPI without having to
install an Anti-theft module.  I had to buy a new factory chip and the
only one available was with antitheft.  Unknown to me, I didn't realize
you had to have this module to even start the car....duh.

Can anyone help me out here?
If I have to use a factory module, doe's anyone have one?

Thanks

Do you mean a PROM chip? I can't see that as being obsolete. GM may have
superseded it to something else, but it is likely still available.

You have to use the ID stamp on your old one to cross over into what the new
service replacement is going to be.

I got both an '89 PROM and CALPAK here in Canada no problem... and there's
not that much different 88-89. (they were shipped up from the US)... (my '89
Firebird was shipped up as well... from Georgia)

Both chips were about $90CDN so that's what.... $1.50USD ea.?  LOL!

I'd say look around a bit more.

PS!!  Anyone know where a fella could get the MAF work-around chip?? That
one they can't find here...

Why would you eliminate the MAF?

Because 2.8L V6's are notorious for getting the wrong signal at the wrong
time from the MAF.  Why did GM come up with the chip otherwise?  :)

Because most mechanics and DIY'ers can't get to the root of the problem and
don't have a clue what they are doing :).

A MAF system works as good as a MAP system if you understand how it works :).

Many of the early MAF's suffered from the hotwire separating and that caused
issues. Also, people use cheap air filters which blow into the MAF, insulate it
and cause issues. A MAF can often be made to work like new by simply cleaning
the contacts and hotwire with electronics spray :).
