I am restifying a 1970 Z28 and recently picked up a 200-4R transmission.  Is
there any modifications needed to have it work properly in this car. I have
noticed a
small 2 prong plug in on one side and want to know what it connects to. Will
my original speedometer work with this tranny or will I need some sort of
modification.  It came out of a 1985 Olds Cultass Supreme with a 305.
Any info will be greatly appreciated  Thankyou

You can install this trans with a lot of modifications.Must be what you
want because its a lot of work. You need to make sure the trans case will
bolt up to the engine you are using. If it is a chevy engine the trans case
must have a multi bolt pattern on the bell housing.200 4R's always were
meant for olds or buick engine if it has only one bolt pattern on bell
hsg. If it has only 6 holes in bell hsg. plus 2 dowel pin holes it is
olds/buick style. The chev style will have I think 8 holes plus 2 dowel
holes. But basically if its olds/buick style it also has like a V in the
top of bell housing, chev style kinda peaks up on top of bell hsg. . You
will have to change the length of the driveshaft, just get measurement
when trans is installed and any machine shop can change the length of
it.You will have to relocate the cross member. Most importantly you have to
make sure the TV cable is made to work properly. This is what controls the
pressure in the trans.Depending on what you are using for a carb. tells
you what to do with the TV cable. If it is a Qjet carb you can go to auto
wreckers and find a car that has a 200 4R in it and get the carb base
plate off it and TV cable bracket and Tv cable.Install base plate on your
carb and the new bracket and cable, have transmission pro adjust it for
you.If you are using aftermarket carb like holley or something you can buy
kits from a company called bowtie overdrives from I think california, can
find them on the net. They sell TV cable kits for overdrives with any carb
set up.Your speedo will hook up to the speedo hsg in trans but gear ratio
for proper speed reading is important.A web site called bowling and grippo
helps you pick speedo gears needed. You have to remove outer speedo hsg from
trans and look into trans and count speedo gear on output shaft. The bowling
and grippo web site needs to know tooth count on at least one gear to do
the figures. If you find it hard to count the teeth on the inner gear you
can also look what color the gear is and go to a transmission shop and
they can look in parts book and tell you the tooth count. The reason I say
to count the inner gear is because if you can't get proper ratio with the
inner gear you have then you have to completely tear down the transmission
to change the inner speedo gear. The last thing is that plug on the side of
trans is for torque converter lock up control. It has to be hooked up as
well cause if its not then it creates lots of heat and not good for
transmission. You can also go to auto wreckers and get a vacuum switch and
wiring to hook up the lock up control. You would probably be better off to
go to a performance shop and buy a lock up control kit for your
application.Performance shops will carry brands like JET , which is very
good for things like this. I hope I didn't miss any steps , but there is
so many things involved to do this. But, it can be done. Good luck if you
go ahead with it.
