My friend's 77 did this very early in it's life, he tried the MMO and it
didn't work, he switched to Mobil One, and it stopped for a while, but
came back. He finally decided that when he finally decided to change the
lifters to change the oil pump, and do the cam, lifters and pushrods
too. He also added an aluminum intake, and headers. That really woke it
up. A couple of years later, a head gasket started leaking, and so he
yanked the heads and replaced it with another set that bumped his
compression up a little, and had mild porting.

The motor stayed together until the oil pump failed suddenly and his
wife kept driving it..it seized up at the end of the street. A BB Chevy
went in, and that's what it has now. The original motor is wrapped up
and all ready to go back into the T/A eventually.

Pull the valve cover off and make sure nothing broke or came loose as
in the rocker arm and nut.  If all looks good try the MMO.
