Hi everyone.. I am hearing too many this or that stories. Is the T4
better than the T5 ?... Should I use a Jeep 4.0 5 speed with adapter plate
in my Camaro or use the T5 W class tranny ?.. I am confused..
Here is the gig.. I have a l98 aluminum 350 rated at 275hp 305tq. Everyone
says even though I have less hp/Tg than a decent corvette etc.. the tranny I
am going to use can't handle anything over 250 Tq and 225 hp ?.. WTF ? THEN
I get a Mustang "Guru" saying his T-4 82 4 speed is stronger than the T-5
non WC 83 Firebird tranny I have.. THEN to laugh harder.. I get jeep "guru"
saying his jeep 4.0 5 speed can be adapted with an adapter plate (but won't
say what tranny he has to be exact to avoid being laughed at if I beat him
at the track) is stronger than both our trannies   and it will work with
clutch etc and be  a drop in to my camaro ?... I really need some advice on
what I should use.  I want to run this car in Ontario Canada 1 or 2 runs in
the 1/4 and after that I am using it for a daily driver (minus winter as my
igloo has no storage LOL).. I don't intend to side step the clutch every day
or act like I have the fastest car in the world as I know I DON'T !!  Any
advice other than hang  yourself will do :)  Thanx all

T4 and T5 should handle the same amount of torque - which is a lot
less than you're putting into it.  It will last for a while if you're
careful.  Sounds like you probably won't be.  I've blown up a few T5's
so I can tell you first hand that it will not handle a 350.  The later
"world class" models were a bit better but still not up to it.  Forget
a T5 from any other application.  Even if you can make it fit, other
models use a smaller input shaft.  You'd need a clutch disc from a
2.8L.

The T10 swap would be strong enough, but where are you going to mount
the torque arm?  You could weld up something to the cross member, but
it really belongs on the tailshaft housing.  And what about
overdrive?  Gas prices make rolling around at 3500RPM expensive.

You really need a T56.  It's strong enough, and it's a 6-speed.  With
the right choice of parts it's a bolt in swap and prices have come way
down in recent years.
