1986 Firebird Windshield Wipers (Removal)

I have a 1986 FB/TA with the old style Wiper Blades. (Accept refill
rubbers)

I want to remove them and install ANCO blades but the round pin seems to
be "starred" on to the pin. Starred being crimps (5 I think) in total
going around the pin.

It there a way to remove this without damage or I am stuck as is?

I assume that you are trying to remove the entire blade assembly (rubber
plus metal) from the wiper arm.

The blade assembly does come off the pin. I expect that you need to push
down on the coils of a spring that you can see where the two metal parts
of the blade meet at the pin. Use a screwdriver to push on the spring,
tug a bit on the blade, and it should pop right off.

Other blade designs may work differently, but I think I'm assuming correctly
what you have. And yes, if you don't know the trick, it might look like the
blade can't be removed.

Thank you!

The driver side spring (which I started with) was rusted and it had
melted into one blob. Once I saw it once was a spring, I nipped away at
it and off cable the blade assembly in two places. It is the PEG
assemble as I am use to.

'85 Camaro here, and that sounds to be to be a non-standard
installation...mine are simple pegs that you slide the replacements on/off
withuot the slightest bit of fuss and bother. Sounds like a backyard
mechanic got the wrong size and did what he felt would keep the blades on,
rather than runnign back to the store for the proper pair.

Best bet might be just to hit the local boneyard and get replacement arms.
It's more time today, but at least you'll be able to change them easily
later on.
