Hi,
Got an 1988 Camaro with 5-speed (305 TBI), and got
drive train questions. 104K miles, and the drivetrain seems
really sloppy, and I'm note sure where to start. Its been
like this for a while, but wanting to find out if I can tighten
this up any way. Letting on/off the gas in 1st gear while
tooling around slowly is horable, and there's gotta be
something I can do. The car is absolutly cherry too.
So, what kind of differential is in this thing, and is there
an easy way to adjust/take up excess gear lash that
might be in the rear end. I've heard that this car as a
T-5 (?) tranny in in - is it possible that these T-5 tranny's
are notoriously "sloppy" as well, and maybe the whole
combination in general is sloppy. Any suggestions ?
Reason I ask is, I'm about to pull out the tranny to
replace a noisy throw-out bearing (and clutch etc while
I'm at it), so suggestions along those lines welcome too.
Thanks !

I'd be looking at the tranny and engine mounts as well as U-joints at that kind
of mileage. You don't describe the "slop" very well, so it's tough to pinpoint
you into the right area.

305 TBI's were awful in the pickup department.
