So on my 88 Camaro I just installed the Auburn
High performance model limited slip Posi unit in
the rear end, right ? Well, I noticed when I put
it all back together that the axle shafts (stock)
"drift" a little bit in the side gears in the Auburn
unit. You can see this while looking inside of the
Auburn unit while reaching over and rotating the
tire back and forth. You can see the tip of the axle
shaft move a little bit before it hits the splines of
the side gears in the Auburn unit, hence a little play.
Car has 106K, and wondering if I should have
replaced the axle shafts as well in case there was
any wear on the splines. The thing is, I checked
this with the old diff, and swore that there was
no play whatsoever, so wondering if the Auburn
is made to the same specs/tollerances as the EOM
diff. Anyways, whats everyone think, and where is
the best place to get new axle shafts? - I Google
searched, and just not finding anything decent.
Thanks!

It's fine!
Don't get too over anxious. It's just the difference of the machining of the
gears.
I would say it's stronger now, than it ever was, and as long as the bearing
surface on the axle is in tact. Don't worry about putting axles in it.
If you're dead set on doing this, Moser Engineering makes a set that is
stronger than stock, but not as expensive as the full competition axles. The
price is comparable to stock also.
I hope this helps?

Yeah it does (very much actually).
So a little play is ok? (where there
wasn't before). If I were to at least
"look" at these Moser ones, you have
a link? - can't find any for what I need:
1985-1988, 7.5"/7 5/8", 26-spline, 5 lug.
Thanks!
