I know it's nbot an Fbody....but...
I have a '90 S10, 5 speed/4cyl. Today when I got on it a little, it acted
like it was spinning the rear wheels...without spinning the rear.
I am sure it was the clutch. Does this mean it's at the end of it's life?
TIA

maybe. Could just be hot. I've done that - clutch gets hot and starts
to slip. Smells horrible. If it starts to slip in regular driving then
you're screwed.

Thanks Ray. The only action it saw before this was backing out of a parking
space...

Have you checked the travel of the clutch pedal before it engages? Do you have
to come up off the clutch really high up before it engages or feels like it is?
I can generally remember something (I think it even says this in the owner's
manual of the '79 T/A I have) that you should be able to use finger pressure
and push the pedal down to a certain point and that will tell you if it's out
of adjustment or it's worn.
(I'd have to check the shop manual to be sure...)
A clutch isn't too big of a deal on this thing. It's rear wheel drive,
everything is accessible and parts for it are dirt cheap.
That is an extremely simple simon truck. Not a powerhouse, but it will bury
many other vehicles out there with longevity and reliability long after the
others have given up the ghost.
It likely has a New Process or Isuzu 5 speed in it. I cannot recall which in
that year. The Isuzu pickup and the S,T series trucks share
parts/designs/similarities over the years.

When mine was going out I would notice it going up a hill on the way home
from work. I'd get it to 70 in like 5th or 6th, hit the cruise control, let everything
even out, then hit the knob like 5 times to bump up the cruise control speed
up 5mph. Tach would go up, speed wouldn't. Then the speed would slowly
go up and the tach slowly go back down.
Admittedly this was pretty far gone. I babied it for a couple weeks until I found
the clutch I wanted in it.
