fuel preasure regulator and the fuel pump and $400.00 later it still wont
start. the psi reading is supposed to be 48-55 and it is till we start the
car then it drops to 25 then slowly drops to 18 where it dies. we are at
our wits end someone please help!!!!

Possibly a clogged or constricted fuel line between the tank and the
pump or the pickup in the tank.  Somewhere downstream of your pressure
gauge.  While the car is sitting, the pump is able to build up
adequate pressure, but, once the engine is started, it can't push/pull
fuel through the system fast enough to keep up the pressure.

Assuming both filters are new, I'd ohm out the pump ground wire.

While it doesn't happen very often be sure to checked for a blocked exhaust.
Just have someone at the exhaust when the car starts and make sure something
is coming out.  Had a much older Ford with similar symptoms with a totally
blocked catalytic converter.

I'm having the same problem! In testing if on the fuse relay panel you
jumper the f/pmp spd cont relay between pin 30 and 87a it should start and
stay running. still testing to find out why i need to do this. but this
counts out cat. conveter and fuel pump, as this is the fuel pump speed
controll relay (car speed ie. if in park or neut. can't over rev eng.)will
post findings any help out there?

From looking at the diagram my guess is that your fuel pump resistor is open
circuited.

According to the service manual here is where it's located:
Mounted to the outside of the right front frame rail forward of the front
wheel

I searched the archives and found a listing on 2005-july-05 under 2000 GTP
runs 5 seconds then die tells you where the resistor is and how to fix.
pulled mine off it was bad did ohms test on it and keep getting random
values so siver surfer is right. Thanks everyone I will pick one up

Hi.  I have the same EXACT problem happening right now.  You try once
and the car is dead - nothing.  Try a couple minutes later and gauges
go crazy - still no start.  MUST be the security system.   Was
wondering how you made out.  Might really help.  Thanks!

Does the "Security" light on the dash flash or come on when you try to start
it? Have you tried a spare key? If your Lesabre is like my Bonneville, it
has one of those dumb keys with the chip in it. If the ignition doesn't
detect the proper value from that chip in your key, the car won't start. As
far as I know, there is no way to 'reset' the security system other then
disabling it by unlocking the doors, however, I believe if your car thought
you were stealing it, the horn would be honking it's head off. If you think
its the security system, then it's likely your key. Try a spare if you have
one.
By the way, how did you 'test' the security system? What did you do?
