okay so what am i missing here in the problem with the pump?94' grand prix
(3.4),loud whining with old pump, car steered okay like nothing wrong,,no
leeks, fluid okay too,so i replaced the pump thinking the bearings were
shot, the new pump does the same thing, just as loud and everything seems the
same, the sound is diffently comming from the pump,so what things did i do
wrong in changing it or routines that i should have done maybe?there is no
bubbles in fluid to mean air or suction problems, fluid is relativly new,car
steers from side to side with no trouble really.just a very loud whine when
the wheels are turned in any manner, with wheels straight ahead, there is a
little whine that fluxuates with engine speed.any ideas please??? is it
possible the new pump is defective??return line maybe collapsed??internal
rack problem??? bob

Where did you get the pump? How did you drain/flush the old fluid?
Bleed the air from the new? What fluid did you use?

Where did you get the pump?
from NAPA
How did you drain/flush the old fluid?
put new fluid in new pump,do not know how to properly flush system
Bleed the air from the new?
was told to leave cap off after filling pump up and rotate wheels back and
forth to bleed properly
What fluid did you use?
regular power steering fluid from napa

The whine is not caused by bearings. It's caused by the sound of the teeth
of the gear pump coming together. If you get a good fluid level in it, and
all the air works its way out, they'll usually quiet down. Give it a week
and see if it improves.
If it doesn't, the rebuilt pump is probably more worn out than the one you
took off. If it's really new it might be defective.

itself??
