PLEASE HELP; MY WINDOW WON"T GO UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2000 Grand Prix GT w/ power windows and power locks. One day,
after finishing a butt, I went to put  the driver's side window up from
being down about 1/2 way, when, without warning, THE WINDOW WOULD NOT
GO UP!! It would,  however, still go down no problem. So, after
attempting to put it up a few more times and making sure it still went
down, I managed to roll it all the way down, where it is now stuck!!
Now that the weather is freakin' FREEZING, I think I might die of
hypothermia if I don't fix the problem!!! (Did I mention that my heat
vents aren't working either - I can feel the heat wanting to come out,
but it seems like the blower or fan or something along those lines, is
broken.)!!!
I was told that the problem w/ the window could be the switch?? So,
I've basically, completely ripped off the interior door panel on the
driver's side to get to the switch ( it would probably help a little if
I knew what the switch was or looked like). Can someone PLEASE tell me
what I need to do to test the switch!!??!! How do I know if the problem
is the switch and not the motor or something else??? What is the switch
and what does it look like???
By now I'm sure you've concluded that I'm 100% CLUELESS about cars
and their parts. Again, I have NO IDEA what I'm looking at or looking
for!! Please walk me through this as if you were speaking to a mentally
challenged, foreign child, who doesn't speak 1 lick of English (and I
don't mean that disrespectfully at all; it's probably the most accurate
analogy for me trying to fix a car!!)
In the spirit of X-MAS, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! IT'S SOO CCCOLD!!! Any
advice, insight, tutorials, etc..... would be much appreciated! Tis'
the season to be giving, right? Remember, Santa's watching!!!  : )

  THANK YOU ENDLESSLY,

  JENNY
