last night my 98 gp 3800, supercharged, auto, 103000 miles died while
approching a stop sign. When restarting it would idle for less than a
second. Giving it throttle it yould rev to 4000 rpm's but as soon as I
let off it would die. I was able to get it to town (20 miles) by
keeping the throttle wide open. Towed it after I got it in town.

The SES light has been on for a couple of months, that code was an
evap. problem. Other than that no signs anything was going out.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I would checkd the DTC's again. Did the light flash at you & then come on
solid? Does it run ok keeping your foot on the throttle? No power , skip or
anything?

light stays on. Traction control light was off and on a few times.

With foot in it,  runs against the revlimiter and when foot is lifted
engine stops

Get the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor looked at sometimes those can cause
a problem like that, my friend has a 2001 VW GTI VR6 and it did the
same thing so we unpluged the MAF sensor and cleaned off the contacts
and got it working again, try running the car with the MAF sensor
unpluged, in case you dont know where it is it should be on the same
tube as the air-filter box.

Thanks I'll give it a try then I'll try to borrow a scanner from a
repair shop.

Check the supercharger belt also. It may have come off if you had a bad
idler pulley bearing.

That was the first thing I looked at besides the fluids.

Follow up on the stalling engine

Fuel filter was replaced as per the shop reccomondations. Had to cut
the fuel line  because the fittings wouldn't come apart. Then the car
would idle for about a minute before dieing again. Would still run
WOT.
Pulled the connectors of all the sensors one at a time and there
either was no change or the car wouldn't start.

Wound up takeing it to a shop up town.
the problem turned out to be a fuel pump regulator controller that is
known to be faulty. It was replaced and relocated. Hopefully the pony
won't give me any more trouble.
