Does anyone know why the G8 is governed at a paltry 135 mph? My '00 SSEi has
121 fewer horsepower and will do 130. Seems very low for this car, I was
expecting 145-150.

Lee,

In 3 words - PRODUCT LIABILITY LAWYERS. For quite a few years GM has
speed-limited their cars to match the speed rating of the tires
installed on the car.

I'll bet before too long someone will have a software hack for the
PCM to disable the speed limiter.

There won't be a "software" hack. You need the tool that can program the
PCM. Grand AMs have been this way since '99, and to override the limiter
you need a specific tool. One that I know is an HP Tuner.

I understand the tire correlation. My SSEi has "H" rated tires which warrant
the 130 mph governing. However, no tire speed rating tops out at 135 mph.
149 would be next after the 130 level.

Must be something else.....like the lawyers.

Or the insurance companies.

Then why don't they put on  higher speed rated tires. A vette isn't
governed. Anyone buying these types of cars wants maximum speed, they aint
buying to have the speed limited. Liability is the drivers responsibility
not the manufacturers.

I agree. Just tell that to the lawyers listed on the back of the phone book!
