Steering Wheel Post Loose - 1979, 911SC

The steering seems s bit loose on my 1979  911.   I can hold the wheel and
move it up and down about 1/8"... is there a way to tighten the steering
post?   thanks

just a guess - there is an upper bearing - I don't remember how they are
adjusted, I suspect if you push the wheel towards the front of the car the
free play will go away, if so, then just figure out how to adjust -

There's a plastic bushing that has probably disintegrated over the years.
Pelican Parts has it at

To replace, you just need to remove the steering wheel, pick out any broken
plastic bits and tap in the new bushing.
