Mark,
About 9mo. ago I bought a 911 ('98 C2S) off the "Rennlist"
classifieds.......I'd been looking for 6 to 12 months with the cash in my
hand so to speak. What you asked really depends on you!
In my case, I knew what I was looking for, knew the aproimate value (a fair
range) and I'm very patient. So it was just a matter of the hunt. The car I
bought was almost perfect and was owned by a Porsche enthusiast, with
records. I had a PPI (prepurchace inspection) preformed at a reputable shop,
had them fax me all the information, ran a car fax , when I was absolutely
confident I caught a 6am flight with a cashiers check in my pocket. I was
home by midnight 1,100 miles.
All and all a very simple transaction.
The very most important (IMHO)......Take your time, know the value, know
what you want, buy from an enthusiast, have the records, get a PPI and did I
say TAKE YOUR TIME!!!
Good Luck and Happy Hunting!!!
Steve
BTW, Did I say "Take your Time" ;-) .

Very good advice. If I had taken my time on car purchases, would have saved
lots of money over the years. Always get so anxious!

Good advice indeed. I certainly wouldn't do this on a whim. I've
been looking since May. thanks, Mark
