Can anybody advise on how to get this
dang 50lb. sucker out of its compartment?
Specifically, do I need to remove the blower
housing sitting right in front of it to turn 1/64"
clearance into a full inch?

I heard that Interstate makes a golf cart battery
that's smaller, lighter and can be installed within
the wheelbase if anyone is interested i'll track it
down.

Thanks mucho,

Tom

Head on over to Pelican Parts. They'll answer every question you have
about your 911.

Actually, batteries are not their forte.  When I called to discuss this
with them a few weeks back, they basically said (I am sure that I'm
paraphrasing), "I really don't know.  Just go buy an Interstate battery.
They're pretty good."  While he may be right, this answer did not suit me.

What the OP may be interested in is that Optima makes a dry cell battery
that'll give you all the power you need, double your battery life and
lessen your weight by ~12 lbs.

I noticed the Optima at Sam's Club. Next time, I'll take the dimensions of
the battery box and the giant $%^& battery in my SC and make that
light(er)weight sucker fit.

Tom,

I know I always had to move the blower to remove/install the battery on my
'84.

If you go to the smaller battery, I believe you'll also find that there is a
conveniently located threaded hole which is used to relocate the battery
hold-down. The great minds at Porsche must have anticipated our need to make
things simpler.  ;^)

The condensor blower is not only screwed down, but also held down with foam
tape, just be careful not to crack the fan housing.
